CASHMERE LAUNDRY DAY
Here you'll find out everything you need to know to take loving care of your beloved cashmere piece.
BE GENTLE TO ME
TOUCH ME
WHEN SHOULD I WASH?
Cashmere almost cleans itself.
It prefers fresh air or moist steam in the bathroom – this restores its natural softness.
If it becomes dry or brittle, it needs a gentle wash to keep the fine fibers soft and elastic.
This also reduces pilling and bobbles by using a re-fattening detergent with high-quality wool wax / lanolin.
The best approach: regularly feel it – just like your own hair.
- Cashmere is dry → care with washing.
- Cashmere is soft and elastic → air it out.
CASHMERE - FOR A LIFETIME.
CARE PRODUCTS
First off, please use an organic, moisturising wool detergent with lanolin.
When it comes to washing cashmere and wool clothes, you should choose care products carefully – because differences are big.
We recommend the detergent concentrate Kschmirliebe Nr. 51 from kaëll.
Choosing the wrong detergent can cause a lot of damage: Color and universal detergents contain enzymes that can break down the protein molecules of cashmere fibers. After repeated washing this weakens the structure of the garment and can cause holes.
Clothes made from wool fibers such as cashmere, merino and alpaca are sensitive natural fibers and require a care product with moisturizing ingredients, because the wool fibers lose some of the protective wool fat with each wash.
In nature, the wool fat protects the goats’ wool and skin against the impact of the environment and harsh climate changes.

KASCHMIRLIEBE Nr. 51
STEP BY STEP
LUKEWARM WATER
HAND WASHING
Fill your sink with lukewarm water and add the Kaschmirliebe detergent.
You only need 10 ml - that's about half a tablespoon. Here, less is more.
Immerse your cashmere item and gently begin to stir the water and detergent evenly.
Allow your garment to soak for up to 30 minutes.
Then run cold water over your garment until the water no longer foams.
Don't wring it out! Instead, gently squeeze the water out of the delicate wool fibers by pressing them gently between your hands and the sink.
NEVER HANGING
DRYING
Don't hang me up, it's not my style :)
When drying your cashmere, lay it down flat in its natural shape on a towel or a clothing rack. Otherwise your beloved piece will suffer. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources (radiators) to prevent your cashmere from shrinking or taking damage.
If you're in a hurry: lay your garment flat on a towel in its relaxed, natural shape. Roll up the towel together with the garment and like that remove any excess water.
Ironing can damage the natural fibers. It is better to treat woolen garments only with steam. Tip: if you don't have a steamer, place a towel on top of your garment and treat it with the steam of your iron. This will make the wool fluffy and smooth again.
OUR TIP
HOW TO DO
MACHINE WASHING
Important: If you want to keep me in shape, put me in a laundry bag or a white, colorfast pillowcase instead.
I only like cold wool wash cycles up to a maximum of 30°C and spin cycles at no more than 400-600 rotations. I prefer to take it easy and slowly stroll through life.
If the machine is full, one tablespoon of kaëll's Kaschmirliebe Nr. 51 is enough. If the machine is less than full, you can use even less. The liquid detergent goes into the dosing flap as usual.
It is generally often recommended to wash cashmere only in cold water. But according to our experience cashmere fibers turn out much fluffier at 20-30°C, as the light temperature allows the fibers to recharge optimally.
If you wash your cashmere in the washing machine, you should take it out of the machine right after the cycle so that it doesn't wrinkle.
THE COMBINATION
HAND X MACHINE
We love the combination of hand washing, including the 30 minute soak time, and the machine rinsing and spinning. Depending on the size of the garment, squeezing cashmere pieces can be very challenging. As a result, it can easily warp and slightly lose its shape. Whereas rinsing and spinning in the washing machine removes the water easily and speeds up the drying duration significantly.
Please note the settings and cycles mentioned under machine washing.
PUNKTLANDUNG
STAINS
If you have stubborn stains on your cashmere, we recommend kaëll's natural Stain Remover Punktlandung No. 78 - completely free of bleach and harsh chemicals.
Important: spray on and rinse immediately; do not let it soak for long. If you don't want to wash the entire item, you can also rinse the stain locally under the tap.
Oil stains: rinse with warm water - grease dissolves better at higher temperatures.
Protein stains: rinse with cold water - protein coagulates with heat and is then harder to remove.
STORAGE
IMPORTANT!
MOTH PROTECTION
Only store when clean - Moths are attracted to stains, skin flakes, and body fats.
Always store airtight in a bag or, even better, in a box. This is particularly important if you won't be wearing your cashmere for an extended period. Add cedar wood or lavender – both are natural repellents. This will keep your cashmere safe.
If you suspect moths, you can freeze your cashmere for 48-72 hours – this reliably kills eggs and larvae.
PILLING
COMB MY HAIR
Oh and by the way, pilling is absolutely normal for my hair and is part of my nature. That's why I like to have my hair combed in the direction of the knots from time to time. Our favorite brush is the so-called "Wunderbürste." Who enjoys leaving the house with messy hair?
TO REMOVE THE KNOTS, WE RECOMMEND:
Cashmere pilling is completely natural – especially when the fiber dries out (e.g. due to dry heating air). To comb your cashmere you have the following options:
A cashmere comb – it is especially gentle on the fine cashmere fiber.
Alternatively, we recommend the "Wunderbürste" (Wonder Brush) by Wilhelm Leistner (brush carefully in the direction of the knit). It is particularly suitable for more open, coarser, or fluffy knit types.
We can only recommend lint shavers to a limited extent. They only work reliably on very tightly knitted, smooth surfaces. For softer, more voluminous or fluffy knits shavers can shorten the fibers, which may result in faster new pilling.
The best approach is always:
First wash with lanolin care (if it becomes dry or prone to pilling) and then remove the knots with the cashmere comb or the "Wunderbürste." Often, a large portion of the knots will already dissolve during the gentle care wash and the fibers will return to their natural shape.
